Workstation – Processors

When selecting processors for our workstations, we rely on the fastest multi-core processors. With the latest AMD Threadripper processors, up to 96 cores per system are possible.

Generally, several processor types and generations can be distinguished:

Intel Core and AMD Ryzen processors are frequently found in the all-around segment. These processors already cover a wide range of applications. Up to 16 cores and 32 threads, combined with high clock speeds, ensure high performance in applications such as CAD or Photoshop. These processors are also well-suited for VR workstations used for projects such as those based on the Unreal Engine.

In the HEDT segment, Intel offers processors under the "Xeon-W" [W: Workstation] brand based on the LGA 4677 socket. With up to 56 cores and 112 threads, these processors offer significantly more cores and can also achieve comparatively high clock speeds. These processors are suitable for multi-core-optimized application scenarios, such as CPU rendering or running multiple applications simultaneously. The "Xeon-W" processors support ECC memory to prevent workstation crashes and instability. AMD counters this with the extremely powerful AMD Threadripper processors (wRX90), which offer up to 96 high-performance cores and 192 threads.

Workstation Motherboards

We primarily use WS (workstation) motherboards from leading motherboard manufacturers ASUS and Gigabyte. These motherboards were specifically designed for use in workstations and offer unmatched quality and performance. We also rely on motherboards from the server specialist Supermicro.

Workstation – Graphics Cards

MIFCOM workstations are equipped with the latest graphics cards from NVIDIA’s GeForce and Professional series, delivering uncompromising, industry-leading performance. The latest NVIDIA Professional graphics cards from the RTX Ada generation offer the features, capabilities, and performance needed to master the challenges of today’s AI-driven workflows. The current top-of-the-line model of the NVIDIA Lovelace GPU architecture combines third-generation RT processing units, fourth-generation Tensor processing units, and next-generation CUDA processing units with 48 GB of graphics memory for unparalleled rendering, AI, graphics, and computing performance.

Workstation – Data Backup

Since workstations must process and securely store massive amounts of data, we use only the best SATA3 and enterprise-class hard drives in our workstations. These ensure exceptionally high data security and ultra-fast access times. RAID systems can also be configured in the workstations using onboard or external RAID controllers.

Workstation – Cooling & Noise Level

Building high-performance workstations that are truly quiet is a challenge. While gaming PCs can sometimes sacrifice whisper-quiet operation in favor of performance, since every game is accompanied by loud sound effects. This is unacceptable for workstations. After all, nothing is more distracting than annoying fan noise when you need to concentrate. However, the cooling of the high-performance components used must not be neglected under any circumstances. For this reason, MIFCOM workstations use only the most efficient and quietest fans and power supplies, special insulation, and carefully selected cases.
