The Technological Foundation: The NVIDIA HGXâ„¢ SXM Platform

 

Unlike traditional, card-based PCIe systems, our HGX servers rely on the highly integrated SXM (Single eXtreme Module) architecture. This offers fundamental advantages for professional use:

  • Ultra-fast NVLink baseboard: All GPUs are mounted directly on a shared motherboard (the baseboard) and connected to one another via NVIDIA’s NVLink technology. This enables direct, bidirectional GPU-to-GPU communication with a bandwidth of up to 900 GB/s (or more in newer generations) per GPU. The bottleneck of traditional PCIe interfaces is thus completely eliminated.
  • Maximum GPU Density: Our HGX systems are designed as highly efficient 4-way or 8-way GPU systems (e.g., based on NVIDIA H100, H200, or Blackwell SXM modules) to concentrate maximum computing capacity in minimal rack space.
  • Top-of-the-line HBM graphics memory: By utilizing High Bandwidth Memory (HBM3/HBM3e), the SXM accelerators offer massive memory bandwidth of several terabytes per second—a critical factor for the training speed of complex AI models.

     

System Performance for Extreme Data Throughput

 

A high-end graphics cluster requires an equally powerful system environment to fully unleash its potential:

  • Dual-socket enterprise processors: Equipped with two latest-generation AMD EPYCâ„¢ or Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, our servers provide the computing power needed to process complex data pipelines without errors and keep the GPUs running at full capacity.
  • DDR5 ECC Registered Memory: To ensure absolute reliability in 24/7 continuous operation, we exclusively install error-correcting ECC system memory, which corrects bit errors in real time during operation.
  • High-Speed NVMe RAID Arrays: Ultra-fast enterprise NVMe SSDs, configured in the desired RAID array, ensure extremely high data throughput rates when loading massive training datasets.

     

High-Speed Networking for AI Clusters (Scale-Out)

 

Training state-of-the-art AI models often requires interconnecting multiple servers into a physical cluster. Our HGX platforms are optimally prepared for this type of scaling:

  • NVIDIA ConnectX-7 & ConnectX-8 SuperNICs: Dedicated network interfaces support InfiniBand and high-speed Ethernet with data rates of up to 400 Gb/s or 800 Gb/s per port for virtually latency-free communication between individual server nodes.
  • BlueField® DPUs (Data Processing Units): Offload network, storage, and security tasks from the main CPUs to further maximize the overall efficiency of the clustered system.

     

Thermal Management for Extreme Power Densities

 

Operating up to eight SXM accelerators in a single server chassis generates a significant amount of heat. Our systems utilize advanced cooling concepts:

  • High-Performance Fan Arrays: Redundant, hot-swappable high-performance fans ensure a constant, precisely controlled airflow throughout the entire chassis.
  • Ready for Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC): For maximum energy efficiency and the highest packing densities in the data center, we also offer our HGX systems with direct liquid cooling interfaces to dissipate heat highly efficiently directly from the processors and GPUs.
